The festival generates a unique atmosphere whereby students and professional artists become colleagues. This past summer 120 students participated from all over the United States, Canada, Ukraine, England, Korea, Japan, Germany, and China. These students came from many of the major conservatories and universities, high schools, and private institutions around the United States. The festival makes every effort toward keeping costs down while providing a high-quality artist/faculty, allowing talent to grow regardless of economic standing. Some financial assistance is available to students.
Participants this summer will come from Las Vegas, twenty U.S. States, and twelve foreign countries. They will work together in an intense but rewarding environment of artistic, technical, and cultural exchange with our artist/faculty. The Piano Institute celebrates its sixth year this summer with a roster of world-renowned performer-teachers. Our faculty comes from the premiere conservatories, universities, orchestras and concert stages throughout the world. Observing the passage of the art from generation to generation - master to novice - is one of the most exciting aspects of the festival for both our participants and audience. In many cases, three generations of teaching and learning are represented in the concerts, classes, and seminars offered.
This summer's concerts offer a musical perspective on the influence of Mozart from his own time to the present day. Four Chamber Orchestra concerts will each feature one significant work by Mozart and chamber orchestra repertoire from other eras. Participants and listeners will enjoy the juxtaposition of new and old styles, the challenge and discovery of new music, and the realization that, somehow, all eras of music relate to each other. Techniques and styles may change, but the profound, timeless issues of the human condition remain the focus of our artistic expression. Additionally two large orchestral concerts will feature repertoire which evolved from Mozart's tonal/formal example. The addition of the Young Artist program, now in its fourth year, offers younger students just the right challenges to grow without being overwhelmed by the intense performance pace of the main festival. Over seventy masterclasses, seminars, and lectures will take place with topics ranging from "The Psychology of Performance" to "Taking Auditions".
Study in the Piano Institute, now in its fifth year, will provide students with the opportunity for study with some of the world's great performers and teachers. Students participate in masterclasses, demonstrations, private lessons, seminars, and solo and chamber music recitals.
